Certain folders on The Cauldron's Message Board have special rules that apply only to that folder. These folders have names that start with "S:" as a reminder that they have special rules. These rules are in addition to standard message board rules.
S: New To Pagan Religions?
Folder Purpose:
Our message board often has discussions and debate on the various Pagan religions at a fairly advanced level and members tend to assume in these discussions that those participating are at least fairly knowledgeable in the basics. This can be fairly intimidating for those who are just starting out and do not yet have that basic knowledge or who realize after reading this message board for a few days or weeks than much of what they have learned from some of the "101" books they have read simply may be incorrect. This folder is to provide a place where people asking questions are assumed to be beginners (instead of assumed to be knowledgeable).
Additional Rules for this Folder:
- In the absence clear evidence to the contrary, members with long experience in Pagan religions should assume that questions asked and issues raised in this folder are being asked or raised by beginners and try to answer them accordingly. This is not the folder for sarcastic answers or rudeness because the poster is completely misinformed or ignorant. You are a teacher here. If you cannot at least try to be a good teacher, don't post. Note that this does not mean that you cannot firmly correct misinformation or the like, it just means that you need to do so nicely.
- Questions and issues posted here are assumed to be from beginners who are interested in learning from our more experienced members. If you are not interested in hearing the answer(s), if those answers differ from what you want to hear, you might want to rethink posting that particular question or issue. You are, of course, free to believe what you wish but please don't lecture our more experienced members on how they must be wrong if their teachings are different than what you have read in books you found in the New Age/Pagan section of the bookstore or the like -- especially if a lot of people are telling you about the same thing.
- If you are new to Paganism, you should read our web site's Pagan Primer page as it will explain what Paganism is (and what it is not) and provide some very basic background material (such as the definition of Paganism/Pagan Religion used by this board and some examples of the many different Pagan religions.
S: Pagan Teens
Folder Purpose:
Teens -- and teen Pagans in particular -- often have a lot of issues to discuss that are different from those of adults. This folder is a place for The Cauldron's teen members to discuss teen issues with their peers -- and with some positive input from those of our adult members who still remember what it is like to be a teen. Teens certainly are not required to confine themselves to this folder, but it is provided as a spot that is definitely friendly to teen issues.
Additional Rules for this Folder:
- This folder is for teen discussions -- and a lot of questions and issues that seem obvious or even trivial to adults may arise here. That's okay as that's what this folder is for. Those adult members who cannot remember what it was like to be a teen should ignore this folder (change the plus sign a the box to a minus sign in a box next to the folder name in thread pane).
- No spell begging.
- This is not an "online dating" folder. No "Age/Sex/Location" checks or the like.
- Unlike most folders, Pagan Teens has a specific staff member assigned to moderate it. While all staff members still have full authority here, Sine (SINESILVERWING) is the moderator of this folder and is the staff member you will probably be most often dealing with. Sine is a Gardnerian Wiccan with many years of Pagan experience. She often works with teens at her job.
- It's in our main rules, but this is probably a good place to stress it: Netspeak and other purposefully weird forms of spelling, OdD CaPiTaLiZaTiOn, etc. are not welcome on this board.
S: Prayer and Healing Requests
Folder Purpose:
This folder is for requests for other members to pray for someone, send healing energy, and such positive requests. Unlike other folders on The Cauldron's message board, this folder is not intended for debate and discussion. This folder is not the place to argue with people because you disagree with their request or would handle things differently. Note, however, that polite suggestions that people also seek mundane aid are appropriate if it really looks like the person is able to do so but might not be planning to do so. Any such suggestions must be positive and practical.
Additional Rules for this Folder:
- Please limit requests to serious needs for yourself, your family, and your friends. Only request positive assistance. Requests that the staff considers beyond the pale may be deleted.
- This is not a debate and discussion folder. If you disagree with a request for some reason (e.g. personal morality, your religion's teachings, etc.) just do not reply to it. Do not lecture the person on their request.
- Suggestions of mundane ways to help deal with a situation, if presented politely, are also welcome -- but do not assume that a request for prayer or healing means that the person has not or will not seek mundane aid for the problem as well.
- If you are requesting help, remember that while prayer is good, prayer combined with mundane action -- where possible -- is even better.
S: Special Topics and Tutorials
Folder Purpose:
This folder is a place for focused discussions on subjects selected by forum staff (such as particular religions, rituals, holidays, etc.). These discussions are intended to be easy to find places to get information on (and questions answered) about this topics. Threads from this folder will be linked to directly from The Cauldron's web site. Thread drift is normally tolerated most places on The Cauldron's message board, but it will not be tolerated in threads in this folder. Posts need to be clearly and directly related to the thread's topic as described in the first post of a thread.
Additional Rules for this Folder:
- Thread drift is unwelcome. Posts in threads in this folder need to be clearly and directly related to the thread's topic as described in the first post of a thread.
