2 cups sugar Directions Combine sugar, buttermilk, soda and syrup in a saucepan. Over moderate heat, cook to soft ball stage (234-240 degrees on a candy thermometer). Remove from heat. Add pecans, vanilla and butter and stir until butter is melted. Cool until mixture begins to thicken (this happens very fast). Drop by spoonfuls onto sheets of butcher or freezer paper. (Do not use waxed paper.) Makes 6-7 dozen |
